Writing Assessment for the Intermediate High Level

Intermediate High Students post stories and essays on the Room101 Morning Blog.

Usually, the stories are written and initially edited by the student on their home computer, but computers are also available in our classroom.

After a story is posted, I copy the original and save it as a comment.

Then, as a whole class activity, we edit the story and post the edited version on the blog. Our goal is to use our grammar and vocabulary skills to make the story as clear and understandable as possible. The author is always present during the editing process and they insure that the original meaning and intent are preserved.

As a final step, the author is encouraged to compare the orinial post to the edited post.

By analyzing the editing changes, the author (and their teacher) can assess the writing problems that confront the author.
